The wonderful thing about stamping is that you don’t need to be an artist to create beautiful cards. You don’t need years of experience, a room full of supplies, or endless hours of free time. You simply need a few quality tools, a little inspiration, and someone to help you discover just how enjoyable creativity can be.
Welcome! I’m Julie, also known as The Maine Stamper, and helping people discover the joy of cardmaking is one of my favorite things. Whether you’ve never picked up a stamp before or you’re returning to the hobby after many years away, I’m so glad you’re here.
Why I Love Stamping
Life is busy.
Between work, family, responsibilities, and everything else competing for our attention, it’s easy to forget to make time for ourselves.
For me, creating cards is more than simply making something pretty. It’s a chance to slow down, relax, and enjoy the creative process. There’s something incredibly satisfying about turning a few pieces of paper into a handmade card that will brighten someone else’s day.
Every card has a purpose.
A birthday.
A thank you.
A sympathy card.
A note of encouragement.
A celebration.
Handmade cards remind people they matter.
That’s why I continue sharing cardmaking through my classes, videos, blog, and weekly emails—because I truly believe small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Don’t Worry About Being Creative
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:
“I’m just not creative.”
I don’t believe that’s true.
Creativity isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you practice.
My goal isn’t to teach you how to become an artist.
It’s to help you feel confident enough to sit down at your table and enjoy creating.
Every experienced stamper started with their very first card.
Mine certainly wasn’t perfect!
What Supplies Do You Really Need?
When you’re first starting, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the choices.
The good news?
You only need a few basics to create beautiful cards.
I recommend beginning with:
- A stamp set you love
- A coordinating ink pad
- White cardstock or note cards with envelopes
- Paper snips
- Adhesive
- A clear acrylic block (for cling stamps)
From there, you can slowly add fun extras like:
- Designer Series Paper
- Embossing folders
- Ribbon
- Dies or punches
- Embellishments
- Stampin’ Blends markers
There’s no need to purchase everything at once. Building your collection over time allows you to learn what you enjoy using most while making the most of your crafting budget.
My Favorite Beginner Tip
Keep it simple.
Some of my favorite cards use:
- one stamp set
- one ink color
- one patterned paper
- one simple embellishment
Simple doesn’t mean boring.
In fact, many of the cards I share during my Weekly Card Class From Maine are designed so you can easily recreate them with supplies you already own. I love showing how changing colors, papers, or sentiments can create an entirely different look from the same basic design.
Simple cards build confidence.
Confidence builds creativity.

There isn’t a “right” way to make a card.
You don’t need perfect coloring.

You don’t need every new product.
You simply need to enjoy the process.
Some days you’ll make one card.
Some days you’ll create a dozen.
Both are perfect.
My Best Advice for New Stampers
If I could offer just one piece of advice, it would be this:
Don’t wait until you feel “good enough.”
Open the stamp set.
Cut the paper.
Try the idea.
Make the card.
Every project teaches you something new.
The more you create, the more confident you’ll become—and before long, you’ll be surprising yourself with everything you can make.
